Chargers Cheer

2021 Season Information

Welcome to the Naperville Chargers Cheer information page. Below are details regarding our cheer program.

Instructional Level (Tiny Mite)

Tiny Mite athletes are the future our sport. At this level, participants will learn the basic principles and foundational skills of cheerleading and teamwork. Tiny Mites non-competitive. Their season consists of a practice schedule that is on par with our competitive level teams, so that they receive the full benefit of coaching instruction time and conditioning. All of our cheerleaders perform sideline cheer and halftime routines for our regular season football games.

In addition to cheering at football games, there is an exhibition competition (“Princess Gala”) for the Tiny and Mitey Mite levels. At the gala they perform a full-length routine (2.5 minute) in front of a large and supportive crowd, are scored by certified judges on a grid for their cheer level and receive medals/trophies. There will be theme characters there to take pictures with the athletes and add to the fun of the event. Tiny Mites also perform as an exhibition team at the Chicagoland Pop Warner Conference Championship. (Note: Though the teams are scored by certified judges, coaches only see the scores for their team, and this level is not ranked against other teams)

Competitive Levels

Mitey Mite

Mitey Mites are competitive up to the Regional level. This means that in addition to everything included at the Tiny Mite level, Mitey Mite cheer teams will participate in the exhibition “Princess Gala,” as well as competing in the Chicagoland Pop Warner Conference Championship and the MidAmerica Pop Warner Regional Championship. At the Princess Gala they will be scored, but not ranked. At the two Championship competitions, they will be ranked against teams at their same competitive level. This adds a new layer beyond instruction and performing in front of a crowd. The girls will begin learning the art and fun of competition, before they reach the level of National competition intensity.

Jr Pee Wee/Pee Wee/Jr Varsity/Varsity

Our Jr Pee Wee (JPW), Pee Wee (PW), and Jr Varsity (JV) teams maintain a rigorous practice program, perform at regular season football games, and are guaranteed to compete at the Pop Warner Conference and Regional levels. Additionally, these teams have the potential to compete on the National stage. The opportunity to participate in National competition must be earned and is never guaranteed. We work hard to prepare our teams and develop the skills to be incredibly competitive at their respective levels. We ask for a solid commitment from athletes and parents, and we communicate openly throughout the season.

Team Placement

Pop Warner sets the participation age matrix. Within that matrix there is an overlap of ages at each level. This is to account for various levels of experience, skill, maturity, and overall readiness. As an organization, coaches evaluate all of our athletes. Cheerleaders will be placed on teams based on a combination of age, commitment, individual development, and the size and needs of the teams.

Practice

Cheer will practice Monday thru Friday for the first three weeks of August, then reducing to 4 days per week thru Labor Day. We then go down to 3 days per week for the remainder of the season. The standard practice time is 6 to 8pm. August practices are held outdoors, and after Labor Day we move inside of a local school. Detailed practice information will be provided at our pre-season parent meeting.
